Stage 2 Improv -- Live Theatre Without a Net!

What do you get when you have ten people, an anvil, the queen of England, a toddler soccer game and Christmas? I have absolutely no idea, but I bet it’s funny.

Stage 2 Improv is live theatre practiced without a net.  This talented troupe gathers information from the audience and spins said information into a live sketch running from 3-5 minutes.  They repeat this sequence multiple times each performance to the delight of their audience.  No show is ever the same and the players rotate through the sketches and programs.  Even if you’ve seen them before, with the joys of live theatre, the next show you see will be totally different.

Think of a game of tennis or thrones.  The players keep the verbal balls in the air until skewered by a fellow performer.   There is a skill to this unlike other types of live theatre.  Having worked at a murder mystery dinner theatre where all of the interrogations were improvised I can really appreciate the quickness of mind and tongue shown by these merry pranksters.    You might think it is all smoke and mirrors and in a way you’d be right.  There is a magical feeling to watching with a sense of wonder as to how all of these disparate components come together in a sketch that makes sense.

And don’t forget there’s FREE POPCORN and no you can’t toss it at the actors if you don’t agree with their take on your suggestions.

Stage 2 Improv graces the stage of The Studio Players several times each year and luckily enough you have the opportunity to see them this coming Saturday. To see them in action, all it takes is a short drive to the Golden Gate Community Center to get your improv fix.  They perform Saturday June 29th at 8:00 PM.  Follow the links below for tickets.
